Hi Jamie,

If you want to add free sms to your website, it can be done most easily through http post/get. This will involve you establishing an account with the SMS Gateway that is most suitable to you and purchasing credits in advance.

Alternatively, you can connect your server to a GSM phone and find something like www.nowsms.com

Unfortunately, whilst my knowledge on the former is quite deep, my knowlege on the latter is very shallow.

Does your cell phone provider have a site that allows you to send SMS messages? If so, take a look at the code on that page and repurpose it into your own web page. I did the same thing for the text pagers we used at my last company. I used the web page the provider had onthe net and used their code to build a page with the same functionality on our intranet.

That's an interesting idea but is it legal? I.e. do they give permission for it?

It would be easy enough to prevent, so my feeling is that if they haven't prevented you from doing it, they must not care. They get their money either way, after all.

True! But they probably provide the facility just to expose you to their advertising, otherwise why would someone login to their site and send an SMS when their phone is sitting next to them and i would just check out the ToC just in case there are dangerous implications.
