Hi,
I've spent a little while making a simple forum which pretty much duplicates the functionality of the Computing.Net forums. It's written using PHP and uses flat files so I doubt you can say it's ultra-efficient or the speediest script on Earth.
However, it works well and two people have already implemented it on their sites with help from me:
As you can see, it works in the same way as the Computing.Net except it's a bit simpler mainly due to not having users (i.e. anyone can be anonymous).
As I said before, it stores each thread and post in a seperate file but I think it's quite fast. As far as I know, it can also have unlimited replies which isn't anything special it's just I was worried for some reason that it couldn't.
Anyway, whad'ya think?
Thanks,
James

Once again youve proven you have some nifty skills in PHP
however, you have also proven that, like most programmers, you score 0 for colour schemes etc
Well Done though

Thanks for the compliment.
I can choose good colour schemes when I want to but both of those forums I was told exactly how they should look. The DJ Heaven one was based loosely around this site:
In fact, my design I think is easier on the eyes than freewebs template.
The Cowbags forum was again, asked to be based on their site, which is www.cowbags.co.uk. If you look at both, you can see that I've done a pretty good job at copying the schemes on both of them.
If you were to have one of these, what exactly would yours look like?
James

i chose 1 colour
id then chose 3 different shades of the colour
1 dark
1 medium
1 lightdark = font
medium = headers
light = background

Um... that example didn't follow what you said. It has a black background and you said it would be the light colour for the background. The header and font colours don't vary much and are just about the same greys.
But I know what you mean, though.
Maybe kinda like this?

James

The example i give was just a way in which 3 colour contrasts could be used to good effect
doesnt matter which order you use them in
yeh that site you showed me is a good example
the orange is to dark though..

you know... that sounds like fun making some forums. ill do that on my next project. as for your forums... i like them, pretty cool. i dont know whats up with that person and their stupid cow background, its soooo ugly!

hey i really really like the forum due to its simplicity - the only thing i wanna know is if it has archive & search functions - if yes, please mail me - i am looking for a php based forum to substitute an existing IIS based A-Forum.
Thanks
