setting up a test server

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate , AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle / 2 GB Micron DDR PC3200
Hi guys, I have been asked to update a website which contains .asp files. I have downloaded the site to my computer and made changes using dreamweaver but when I try to view them I'm told I need to set up a testing server to view the changes.

Can anyone tell me which programs I need to install in order to set up a testing server on my computer ?. After googling I have found there are dozens of different programs for different functionality and I'm lost. All I want to do is check the altered site pages before I upload them.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question. Hope you can help

I think you'll need a flavor of Microsoft's IIS server to serve the asp pages; I haven't really used IIS, so I'm not sure if it will help you or not, but try this page for setting up IIS - the instructions are for using XP, but it may work with Windows 7 too.

Thanks shutat. I did indeed have to turn on Microsoft IIS. In windows 7. One also needs to expand "World Wide Web Services => Application Development Features" and make sure Asp and are ticked, as they are not ticked by default when IIS is turned on. That's a great link you provided, wish i'd found it on my searches. I got it sorted a few days ago but thanks a lot for the reply.

No problem - glad it was of some use even though a tad late. :D
