To you search engine optimization gurus out there. Can you tell me the pros and cons of letting my forum users post their webpage links in the posts as far as google site ranking is concerned. Will my ranking drop because of this? Do you advice against allowing this or do you promote this? Is it good or bad? Any good articles out there that explains this specific issue?

i could be wrong about this but i think that it is a good thing as search engines not only consider, as part of their ranking, the web sites that link to yours but the fact that yours links out to others too

needless to say that your forum users will benefit from having their links at your forum if your forum pages are listed or indexed by search engines

to that end, you could ask that if anyone adds their links to their post, that they put a link on their web site to your web site (a kind of exchange links thingy)

From what i have read, this is not a problem as long as the links are valid and not spam. You should keep a careful watch over the spam sites as they will hurt your ranking
