I have a Legend of Zelda fan site. It has a forum, chat room, soon-to-be massive download section, flash games on the forum, tons of midi files, and a fair layout that I plan to update soon.

However, despite how much work I've put into this site, it gets very few visitors. It has been submitted to all the major search engines several times. Does anyone have suggestions as to how I might get more visitors? I've seen tons of these sites out there, and all of them get a ton of traffic. You might be saying that all the others are the reason that I'm not gaining popularity, but sites newer than mine are doing better than me. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get some visitors?

I would also like to add that, as I'm still 17 years old, I still suffer the jurisdiction of my parents. So, I'm not allowed to spend any money on the site. Still, I managed to get professional hosting for free so the site is actually pretty good with a lot of potential. Just remember that with any suggestions you have, it will have to be a free solution.

I have a few suggestions:

1. Right now your site seems to be down...I'm getting a mysql_connect not defined error in index3.php. If a search engine bot crawls you before it's back up, your ranking will be hurt.

2. Remember that most search engines prefer sites that are linked to in other high ranking sites. The more sites with high rankings that link to you, the better your rankings will be. For example, computing.net is rated very highly, and now that you've created a link here to your page, your ratings will receive a little boost. I still receive a lot of traffic from computing.net for links that I posted months ago. Of course, other nintendo sites will get you ranked even higher, so try to e-mail the big guys and have them put you on their 'related links' pages.

Good luck,
-SN

The other question is, how many people are actually searching for info and other stuff about Zelda??? If there are many, how much competition do you have?

That link is outdated. As of today, that web host is closing down and I'm moving to a new server. The reason I chose to ask now is so that I can get a fresh start on the new server. As for the competition, there is a lot and a lot of people looking for Zelda stuff. Thats why I'm asking for some suggestions (which I really appreciate the ones I've gottne so far). Getting visitors despite all the competition is difficult, but I'm willing to give it my best.

Well there are many tips which help in getting you to the top of search engines. Remember to have a site map and submit that to major search engines to all your pages get crawlled at once. Also page titles are vital as they will be the first part of the page search engines look for to match criteria. And as people have said before get as many sites to link to you as possible.
