I know what that means but im not good with this stuff. From my understanding the more your site links to other sites the higher the page rank you get? I see popular sites who dont do this but are in the first page of google searches (and i know some of them didnt pay for it either). What am i missing? I also use this site to check what links are on a site:

http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/

Now I see some have nba.com links yet their site is a pc tech support site. Is there anyway to do add these links to my site without having to make a page meaning can i put these links in my website code and have them never seen on my site?

- you have got it back to front: the more other sites link to you, the higher your ranking. But the reality is not that simple as it depends on other things such as: what is the page rank of the site linking to you? what is the page rank that contains the link to your site? how many links are on that page? what is the text that is displayed on your backlink? does the site that links back to you have a theme compatible with yours? and so on . . .

- i have found that in recent times, google's results are not very good in the sense of delivering quality results ie. i have found time and again that sites with not much content listed high in their results, and this goes right against what google claims to be able to do ie. provide highly relevant sites for a keyword search. I am not surprised then about your comment,

- also, if you have 1 backlink for a site with a page rank of 8, then your ranking will be higher than if you have 10 backlinks from sites with page rank 2

- i am not clear on your last question ... it seems that you want to add links to your site to boost your ranking without these links being visible ... this is dangerous as hiding stuff like that on a site can get you banned from search engines

Thanks smbotans. So in other words I have some major research ahead of me? I dont like asking questions like this when there are answers its just hard to find what you are looking for when you have no idea on what you are talking about haha...

I still really dont know what to do? if i cant get this right will time make my site popular?

Thanks.

i know what you mean about finding answers ... if you do a search for 'backlinks' or 'link exchange' at your favourite search engine, you should get most of the answers you need

like anything, you need to do the research so as to know exactly what you are doing

doing the research is well worth it as backlinks are crucial to a high ranking (assuming of course that you are targeting the right keywords and that your site is properly optimized)
