Hi,
Could you please "rate" my website. Any suggestions, likes, dislikes, comments etc would be much appreciated.www.uwd.org.uk/newsite
Regards,
Mike

Painfully slow to load.
The Free PC Help image at the bottom "jumps" the first time your mouse riolls over it
In the News block on the right the first news item is not top aligned with the date icon.
The "Click for Home" tooltip on the header is a little obtrusive. Suggest using a standard tooltip.
The grey text on the white background could stand to be a little darker. It might look fine on your monitor, but on my monitor it looks too light - especially the links at the bottom.
Other than that, it has a pretty clean design.

Hi,
All suggestions taken on board. Will do an update in the morning. =]
The site seems pretty fast to me, however i am on 4mb. The slowness will mainly be due to the "rounded box’s". These don’t use images at all, instead use JavaScript to draw them out.
I'll have a re-think and see if i can get it to load any faster.
Any other comments/suggestion are welcome...
Regards,
Mike

I'm not sure if JavaScript for the rounded corner is slowing it that much, but if we use CSS it'll be faster.

i would like to add my 2 cents worth :-)
- i really like the layout but it needs tweaking
- i would suggest a different rollover colour scheme for your menu at top to differentiate it from an active link + white text on grey background is hard to read ... for me anyway
- i really don't like the red underline rollover effect on your links ... underlined blue (same colour as link) would be great
- the APRIL 07 2007 does not fully display for me ... bottom third of 2007 is missing ... i am using firefox as my browser
- in your client login section, make the font the same size as that of your page ... it looks bigger ... your password ***** is too long ... make it around 6
- your code has a lot of white spaces and these make your page bigger than it needs to be and hence longer to download ... white spaces include blank lines
as i mentioned, i really like the look but it needs tweaking :-)
on the plus side, your code seems to be HTML valid according to HTML TIDY ... i know because i have it running as an add-on with my browser
hope this helps

It's pretty, and I like how there's no crap (cookies, flash, etc.)
It was slow to load for me also, but I'm in Tennessee and you're in England. Here's my opinion though. I've always found the xhtml and css validator links a bit pretentious. Anyone who knows about such things knows how to load a web address into the W3C validator site, and no one else cares.
I used to proudly display those links on my sites, but it turned out that they detracted from the content and others (non-techies) found it annoying. I realize you're advertising web design services, but again, those who know (and care)about such things don't need the link.
Oh, and in Firefox, the text fields on the top right extend (to the right) outside the colored area.
Nice work!

Updated... What do you think now?
“The Free PC Help image at the bottom "jumps" the first time your mouse riolls over it”– Im looking into this =]
“In the News block on the right the first news item is not top aligned with the date icon”– Sorted…
“The grey text on the white background could stand to be a little darker. It might look fine on your monitor, but on my monitor it looks too light - especially the links at the bottom.”– Changed to a darker grey
“- i would suggest a different rollover colour scheme for your menu at top to differentiate it from an active link + white text on grey background is hard to read ... for me anyway”
– How about now?
“- i really don't like the red underline rollover effect on your links ... underlined blue (same colour as link) would be great”– Now blue..
“- in your client login section, make the font the same size as that of your page ... it looks bigger ... your password ***** is too long ... make it around 6”– Done?

for consistency, how about making all the grey backgrounds on your page the same as the grey of your HOME button? i think it would look better
for your rollover menu items, the orange is good but the white text on it is not (imho) ... how about black text on orange background ... that way you are consistent with the news column colour theme
font in CLIENT LOGIN is still too big ... imho
make NEW FOR 'O7 black as again white text on yellow background is hard to read
just noticed, your FREE PC HELP thumbnail is 32Kb while your banner is 20Kb ... i suspect that you resized a full image with FREE PC HELP to a smaller size ... hence the big file size ... you really need to save that image resized as 32K for a small image really is too big and will increase download speed ... i found your site long to download today ... may be this is why
looking good ... you should be proud :-)

there's an extremely high amount of initial latency... it literally took me about one minute to load the main page. none of the other pages work at all. it looks pretty but unless there's some content, you can toss that site in the garbage.
latency from the UK to western US is on the highest of about 300ms... it's taking me well over a minute for the main page to load and then many seconds for additional pages to say 404 error. that letency will also make anyone who goes to your site, to turn around in a split second.
and one more piece of information... it's not the javascript... my cpu usage doesnt go over 3% @ 3.2ghz just browsing. so unless you got some SSI or php on a VERY old and slow computer... i have no idea why it's slow.
