Thanks to all those who helped me with my website building queries. I finally finished it... it's the first I've ever done.
It's not flashy... I prefer simple and uncluttered...
I have limited control over the photos used and the wording on the "contact us" page is not my choice as this website is for a customer of mine.
I would really appreciate any constructive criticism on the rest of the website though.
It is only temporarily on this (free) webhost... will set it up on the paid website I registered with once they send me my account details...

woops... there is a spelling error on links page... will fix that after I find out any other errors...
Also, my pages show up as "untitled" how do I fix that?

I'd consider centering the table in which your content resides. A <Center> tag before the table tag (after the body tag)should fix this. Don't forget a </Center> tag after the </Table> tag (bottom of the table).
Apart from that, I like the clean look of your design.
"Also, my pages show up as "untitled" how do I fix that?"
In your source code, the title tag contains "Untitled". You need to change this (on every page) to "Avalon Accommodation" (or similar).
You can use Notepad to get these edits done.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

On your photo index page you are using VERY large images and only scaling them down. In fact on the "full view" images you still aren't using them at their full size. You are making those pages much more bandwidth intensive than they should be. You should create smaller versions of the images: one size for the preview page and one for the "full view" page. Each should be sized exactly the size you will display them at.
On the links page, the links are opening in the same browser window. I never have external links replace my page. You should use the target property for links to have the external links open in a new browser window. You could have them open in the same window or different windows for each.
I agree with Sci-Guy that you should center the page. Also, the links at the top are left justified and the links at the bottom are centered. Normally I wouldn't think anything of it, but the links in both locations are exactly the same and it looks odd. I'd go with centered for both.

This is how you add/modify your title:
1. Search for the tag called "title" between the two <head>-tags, if it doesn't exist then add it by yourself.
2. Then type something like below;
<title> Your title goes here... </title>
3. And viola! There you have it! :-D

Nice house, by the way!
Maybe I should take my girlfriend there
on our honeymoon, he he, I need to save

Thanks for the responses! I have fixed some of them as per your suggestions and will get onto the other suggestions once it's on the proper site (the one I'm paying for that I'm awaiting registration for)... it will be easier to adjust things like centering etc from the file manager of the webhost...
Really appreciate the help!

The file manager won't be any easier than Notepad. It's a simple matter of typing in a couple of tags and saving.

I have finished my website. The address now is www.avalonholiday.co.nz
Would love any final criticism or comments.
Many thanks

some thoughts:
- change LINKS to LOCAL ACTIVITIES to convey that you list things to do on that page ... this will be more enticing for your visitors ... i would not click on a LINKS link but i would on a LOCAL ACTIVITIES link to see what i can do once there
- i couldn't work out if you were selling the place or renting it until i read your text ... how about a text banner at the top of your home page with 'stay with us while holidaying in NZ' or something like that ... 'local accommodation for a NZ holiday' or perhaps something shorter
- i suggest a header for the bottom left cell eg. 'things to do and see'
- ditto for CONTACT page for text cell ... 'contact us'
remember that people scan web pages for information and only read if they want more details ... so make it easy for them with appropriate headers on each page and table cells
- PHOTO page ... make the header a bit more exciting eg. 'this is where you could be staying for your next holiday' ... and add an INSTRUCTION section with your current header
- any chance you could add a price list of some sort?
hope this helps
