Folks,

I am using .htaccess/.htpassword procedure on an Appache server to provide password protection. It is working pretty good.

HOWEVER, I would like to open a specific file (after someone has entered a correct login/password) depending on who they are.

Right now....I can link to a specific file, and when the person clicks on that link, they may or may not be on the "approved list" (ie their password may or may not work).

I would like to have just one place to enter a login name and password (like on the home page). Then, if say john123:password123 logs in, he will go to page bluegrass.htm, or maybe linked to file music.txt

But if sally567:password567 logs in, she is sent to page petlovers.htm, or maybe linked to file vets.txt

This is kinda wordy, hope it makes sense.

Any help appreciated,
THANKS!

I have been lookin into htaccess to password protect directories, but havnt been able to do it. Ive been told the coding i used was correct, but for some reason it had no effect what so ever on my apache webserver

Someone said your need to configure apache to deal with htaccess

I am not sure about configuring Appache (other than programming those 2 files and placing them in the correct directories).

The hosting service I use maintains the servers and provides instructions for the procedure.

Here is a link to those instructions....however, they may be specific to these particular servers....I don't know.

Anyway...here's the link:

Now...how 'bout "ONE Password Point - MANY Results?"

Maybe it's possible using .htaccess, I don't know, but I recently did something like this using a very simple php, mysql combo.

If this is an option, I'll post the code.
