Comment: Perhaps someone on this site can give me some information. I'm working on a personal web site on which I have put a javascript menu. I know zip about javascripts, the one I'm using came from the Dynamic Drive site which offers them to the public. The menu looks fine with Internet Explorer, but doesn't show up at all on either Netscape or Mozilla. I do have the javascript feature enabled on both of those browsers. I mis-typed my URL on my registration...I think I changed it, but am not sure it "took." In any case, if someone would look at the source on my page, maybe they could tell me what I did wrong. The page is at: http://showcase.netins.net/web/americanreflections/index.html Jules

Reply: (edit)You didn't do anything wrong...The demo doesn't work in firefox (same rendering engine as netscape). Writing large javascripts that work in NS and IE is a pretty difficult thing to do. Dynamic drive says that this script works with NS4, but doesn't guarantee it for NS6. Try javascript.internet.com if you can't find one on dynamic drive that works. Good luck, -SN

Reply: (edit)Yes, as SN says, getting javascript to work with both IE and Netscape and all the various versions is a task. So when you download javascript, verify that it works with the browsers and versions that are important to you. Also, look at your audience. Only about 5% of internet users use netscape and less than 10% use something other than IE. But it may be that all of your friends use Netscape so Netscape support is important to you.

Reply: (edit)Thank you for the responses. I know very little about javascript. I've been able to figure out how to change colors and links to my pages within a script, but that's about all. I don't personally know anyone who uses Netscape, but once I get the site registered with search engines, it's reasonable to think that someone using Netscape may wander in, and if they can't see my menu, they can't navigate the site. I thought about putting regular links at the bottom of the page and directing Netscape users to that, but that's an awful lot of work. Does anyone know of a good CSS tutorial? And I mean one that is really basic, that starts with an explanation of what the terms mean. I have Top Style on my computer, as well as another program that attempts to teach CSS, but they both assume I know what they're talking about. Life would be a lot easier with CSS. Thank you. Jules
