I have been using atomz.com search engine, which does everything that I need it to. The only problem is that it only searches up to 500 pages. My webpage is 2,000 pages. I called for a price and they said $15,000.00 to search 2,000 pages. I am looking for an extremly cheap one or even better free. Most importantly I want it to work like the one I am already using. Here is a link to the only I currently use, if you know where I can get one as good as this let me know.

Chaud is right. Google for php and cgi search engine scripts, there are plenty of good ones for free.

Search around for a while first, there are many more sites than hotscripts.com. Don't settle on one the first you see, there could be better ones.

Also one using php is faster, more efficient and more flexible than one using perl. If you can't use these scripts with your host, then you could use a javascript search engine instead, such as Ksearch.

I have tried most remote hosts. Although I like that they make it very simple to install and use, none of the ones I have found will search 2,000 pages. Atleast not for free. I have tried the above examples. I have CGI on my webhost. However, I have never used a cgi scripts before, and have had nothing but problems with it. I understand the names to change with files. However, I must be missing something. I also tried google. I was looking more for simple search results. (only displaying title from meta tags of search results) with no ads. I will try JavaScript. Let me know if you can think of any reason why my cgi isnt working.

Why advertise Google just to have a useful feature for your own web site? Also the results are not on your site, they are on Google's own servers, and if you read their terms of service, they could potentially put anything there, including ads which are inappropriate to your site.

So why use your own and not Google is simple to answer... you retain 100% independence and 100% right of control over content on the search results pages. Use a service like Google and you cede that control to them, as well as opening yourself up to the risk of being associated with commercial links which are not appropriate to the image, reputation or content of your site.

Thanks for the insite. I have found a service which is free, indexes something like 20,000 pages. And is almost ad free. (one mini ad to there site) It is somewhat customizable. Also, when creating your account I found it extremyly difficult. Then again, its free, almost ad free, and can handle a large site. I think its a good find. Future forum readers should try www.master.com

Hmm page 404 error. Either they are down right now, or they are blocked as a bad site in my Hosts file.

Not sure works for me from multiple computers, wonder why you have it marked as a bad site? Do they do ad ware or spyware or something?

I have over 2 megs of Hosts, that's about 80,000 banned domains. They are banned for many reasons, adult content, hacking/infectious sites, ad banner tracking technology, spyware, etc. Don't know what that particular site is infamous for, but I trust if it's blocked, it's for a valid reason.
