adsense is good. but it won't do enough. if your site is type of forum, another possible alternative is to give a special page for those who give donation.

You can try a social networking site like rsitez.com it comes with built in ad features and they let you keep all the revenue generated. They charge a licensing fee but it's pretty low compared to paying someone to build it. Good luck!
