NameJet stole our domain

November 29, 2012 at 11:34:52
Specs: Windows 7, 4G
A domain ran out and was not renewed and NameJet came in and bought it.

Now we have to buy it from them by auction.

Has anyone had any dealings with these people?

They realise that the domain name was being used quite a lot - and so we need it.

But we don't want to be blackmailed.

Any advice?

You need to consult a lawyer. Depending upon what country you live in, and the exact circumstances, cybersquatting like this can be illegal. But it's complicated, and only a lawyer can help you. It may be that a single letter from a lawyer will be enough for you to recover your domain name.

If you own the trademark you can submit legal action and steal the domain back. Then you can sue them for copyright infringement and fraudulent dealings.

But if you just let the domain expire and forgot to buy it back up, you can still get the law to get your domain back, but they may not be able to be prosecuted for cybersquatting.
