i have a problem!!
i use IIS on winXP and PHP4.3.8
i have installed mySQL server and i can acces it with phpmyadmin
now my problem is
whan i put a phpBB on the wwwroot and run its install.php file i pun all mySQL DB info and it tell's me it can't connect using my new user and pass!!
i tried using root and no pass and it work!!
problem is that mean everyone can acces my mySQL BD with no pass !!
what can be the problem ?!!?

make sure to use localhost or 127.0.0.1 as the address to connect to the sql server. Let me know if to worked out okay.

when you installed mysql, there will be only 1 user (root) with no password...

you can of course change it...

and you can also add more users, to limit some of them to some database (that's what they do on hosting servers)...

or if you still want to use `root` then it's fine assuming it's just a test site?

to restrict `outsiders` from using it, you can allow only `localhost` and your computer name and maybe your domain name (if you have one) to use that 'root'...

so people can't play with your 'root' username remotely, but must use your programs which installed in that 'allowed access from' (in this case, you've installed phpBB)...
