Missing html files

Microsoft Windows vista home premium - 3...

Specs: Windows Vista
The index.html files turn up missing in several of my local website folders. I copy them back into the folders from external backups and they stay there - for awhile. Then, poof, a couple days later they are gone again. I have run Spybot, Adaware, Avast, etc. and found some things but the files still turn up missing. Any ideas?

are you using windows hosting or linux hosting? have you checked all your executable files (asp, php, ..) to see if they may have some problem!!!!

This is on my local laptop where I do the web design, not on the hosting servers.

do you see them in recycle bin?
Try changing the permissions.

Check your httpd.conf file.

Create a new directory one outside htdocs and one inside it. put index.html in both. Note down the date when you create them. Check the error/access log file starting this date till the day it disappears again. Which files ran. Check those files.
