Hi,

I've created a minimalist, cut-down version of the Apache web server. I don't like the official ~6MB MSI installer and I don't want to compile it myself, so I just took away the files and settings I felt were unneeded.

You can download it here:

mini2052.zip

There is no installer: you just extract the files to a directory. Read the enclosed readme.txt before extracting.

Please tell me what you think,

James

I've now made a second version, which includes a minimalist version of PHP with it (already configured):

I tested the _with PHP_ version James, and here goes:

(OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port)
is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:6666
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
The service name is invalid.

what could be the problem? I use XP Pro SP2

my bad!

I forgot to turn off IIS :D

it's working... azza.mine.nu:6666 if my PC turned on...

what I think? I like it, I use my home webserver mostly when I need to give files to someone, it's a lot easier than using IMs or email... and your simple webserver is perfect for the task :)

Hiya,

Thanks so much for testing and I'm glad you like it!

I got the same error too, I had some old version of Apache running when I was trying to make it all.

Just in case you didn't notice, the server parses .html files with PHP (as well as the standard .php extension). The server also disguises itself almost completely in that all it ever returns in the HTTP header is "Apache", no version, no PHP etc.

Also, PHP errors are supressed which is the safest way on a real-live server but can easily be turned back on in the c:\www\php\php.ini file.

Finally, there are some custom error pages that I made myself. Here's the 404 Not Found one:

http://azza.mine.nu:6666/unknown-page

And you can see the rest here:

http://azza.mine.nu:6666/errors/

I think I might make a small web site which lets you download both of these versions and provides some help for them too.

Any other ideas I could add to it?

Thanks again,

James

a website is good, so people can check on the new versions, if any... as well as bug reports etc...

about features, for me it's already good enough, I only need a simple way to quickly publish/show files to people... without using a full featured webserver :)

oh and I heard that you should attach the GPL on every modified GPL softwares as well as publishing the source (although it doesnt matter to me as I have no idea about software programming) :D

OK thanks. I've made the web site, you can find it at:

I'm going to add the GPL in a few minutes.
