Solved Migrate to joomla 3.x

Specs: XP pro, AMD Athlon pentium-c
I have a joomla 1.5 website and am considering migrating to joomla 3.x. It will be a major effort, and must migrate to a new hosting company at the same time. One thing that makes me hesitate is I have a volunteer tech who sometimes needs to work on the site, but he is not real expert in joomla. He knows 1.5 good enough to work with it on the back end. But 3.x (from what I can see) looks more complicated. Can you tell me, how hard would it be for someone like him to learn joomla 3.x?

Since I've never met the man to assess his level of intelligence it's impossible to say, but hopefully he's the type of person who likes a challenge.

I've updated a site from 1.x to 2.5x (3.x soon). At the time I just did a complete backup and then created a copy of the website elsewhere for testing purposes. I updated Joomla using the migration app and it all seemed to have worked fine. You also have to do an evaluation of the components, modules and plugins that you have and check off the ones that are supported in the new version or find alternatives that do the same thing. You will need to modify the existing templates you have for the new install. There are instructions on the official site, sorry I don't have links here. I found v2 of Joomla no different to v1 really.
