Have been doing a lot of reading in this forum and on the web as well and have come away really not able to decide this simple question, are the use of meta tags worth including on a commercial web site or not, with the more I read about it the more it sounds like Google and some of the other big engines wont use them in a ranking anymore so why would they still be of any use ?
Another question, if they are indeed still useful what would be the maximum number of descriptive words one should limit in the tags field ?
Keep the old stuff running

I can't comment on google using the meta info or not, as I don't know.
However I can tell you that the maximum length of a meta tag, from the first < to the last > is 1024 characters. Probably 100+/- words.-{>_<}DO~/}-

What are the search engine rules for upper versus lower case and should a comma be included or not between each word ?

Thanks for the reply but the link you sent me to was not much help with out signing up for the $ervice they supplied, what I was hoping for was either an information link or just a simple answer to the question ……Again thank you for your time.......

I have used the information on www.highrankings.com for years and never paid a cent. The only thing I signed up for was their FREE newsletter. By using the site, I learned enough in a few days to get one of my new sites in the top pages for many keywords. Look under articles, forums and past newsletters. There is more free information on that site than you will need and you don't have to sign up for anything if you don't want to.

Google use the meta description but not keywords. I would still say it is worth using keywords for other search engines. Remember not everyone use Google.

Thanks for all the tips guys, looks like you have me on the right track.....
