The local church has asked me to setup a live video stream to broadcast the sunday service. The idea is that the residential homes can show the service via their own internet connections on a projector in the comunal room for those unable to make it to church. The church is insistent it has to be a live stream.
What is the best way for me to set this up with regards to the live streaming part? The actual video/audio content is not a problem. The church itself has a BT Broadband connection (8mb down/288k up approx) but there would only be 1-3 concurrent users.
Can I setup my own server at the church without having to involve a streaming media host? What is the best software to use - even better if it is open source/free.

This site says they'll stream live content for free: http://www.camstreams.com/
But, I always think you get what you pay for. Might be some adware in it.
Here's some general instruction for setting up your own stream. http://www.publicsource.apple.com/p...
Here are some software options for streaming:

You would have to connect a video camera to a computer at the church and they you could broadcast it via ustream (http://www.ustream.tv/). They have a great service and can even do chat at the same time. Seeing how you have a fairly slow upload speed something like ustream is perfect because you upload to them and then they do the uploading to the people watching so it shouldn't matter on your end how many people are connected.

Hi, we use ustream.tv over a DSL connection at http://www.olivebranchchurchofchris... It works very well.
Folks can view live as well as archives of the broadcast saved on ustream's site. Send an email to the webadmin of the site above if you would like to hash further.
