Comment:

I just installed IIS on my computer ( iam assuming it came with the microsoft .net framework)

but it comes with zero documentation. and often the documents that are there refer to things that dont exist or existed in older models of IIS. i need a crash course in IIS. But mainy i need to understand user login and assigning rights for users...

If anyone knows alot about IIS and would like to help me set this up that would be great. Post anything you know about IIS Below or contact me. -- Huck.berry@gmail.com

IIS is a completely different animal from the .NET framework...IIS comes with windows XP or later (not home, and not installed by default.) The .NET framework has to be installed separately.

You should be able to figure most stuff out by digging around in the management console (ctrl panel, administrative tools, iis). Maybe if you were more specific as to what you're trying to use IIS for we could give better information.

Good luck,

To be more specific i have three issues.
1.) How do user permissions work (Other then NTFS) I.E. is there a better way then adding all thoose users to my computer
2.) All the little things like why if i make a Virtual Directory named user1 and i log in under User1 it redirects me to that V.D.
3.) I have set everything up and it works on my computer why cant i FTp to it from anyother one?

1. It depends on what you're using IIS for, which you still haven't quite specified. It sounds like you want to use it primarily for FTP. In a typical IIS setup, permissions are either managed by the anonymous access user (IUSR*), the ASPNET user, or if you're on a domain and have anonymous access disabled, your NT user ID. You can change this depending on your specific need.

2. I've never noticed that behavior before, but I would guess that the default home folder for a user is always the root + its username, and this is something you could change.

3. Any number of reasons...Probably a firewall, router, a non-public ip address, ISP blocking the port, or using the wrong port alltogether.

Good luck,
-SN
