I was wondering if anyone knows of a good editor to use for php / mySQL. I have used frontPage for years, and I would like to migrate into something a little more advanced.
Since I started using php / mySQL I notice frontPage can't cut it at all. Infact, you can't even open a php file in design view.

Yes, I know about dreamweaver. But, it is a really awful development studio. I have tried it for quite sometime and I have yet to make some productive with it.

I guess I was looking for something as simple as frontpage. But, must allow for php editing and prefably a graphic means to work with a mySQL db.

A frontpage plugin would be great, too!

phpMyAdmin

No suggestion for the PHP editor, unless you just want to use the code coloring or code helper or some feature like that, which most open source text editor will do.

Never heard of a good "PHP Parser" (is that how we call it?) that beats testing the code directly in a live server, because for example, server settings and php.ini settings are different here and there.

I think the OP is looking for a WYSIWYG type of editor. In my opinion FP is not good at handling that type of task simply because programming is not something that you can really do with a graphical editor. Any such editor will be severely limited because it will have to force the user to utilize the "preset" controls and functions that it can support.

I liken it to a paint-by-the-numbers picture. Yeah, you can end up with a pretty picture, but you don't have a lot of decision over what you will end up with.

eclipse for php. that's quite a good editor for php complete with library. no suggestion for graphical mysql, but, if i'm not mistaken, on mysql website itself, there's a software that helps connect to your sql database from your pc. havent try that out yet, but maybe u want to take a look.
