import xls cells into html

Specs: Windows 2000/XP, P4-2 / 2.4GB
I want to create an html template that can fetch the (sometimes long) texts of cells in an xls database into specific locations in the body. The html will then be saved to a unique document and will not be changed anymore.

I've been searching the web for days now and any help will be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Well, to use straight HTML/JS, you'd need to convert it to a CSV - JS won't open an XLS.

But when converting to CSV (File / Save As...), you'll loose all formatting - i.e., bold, font styles, formulas, etc. It'll just be the data.

There's serveral CSV2Table tools for jQuery, here's one I found:

If you really want to read an XLS, you'll need to use some server side scripting technology (PHP, PERL, or .... .NET) to convert the XLS.

Oh wait, I stand corrected.

JavaScript CAN read an XLS file, but it uses ActiveX - so it'll only work in Internet Exploder.

... I'd still prefer the CSV method tho, just because it'll work cross browser.
