Ideas for creating website for my band

Adobe Dreamweaver cs4

Specs: Windows XP
Hey guys... I need some help please?
I will be soon making a website for my band and I'd like to do something a little bit different... Just wondering what I can and can't do on Dreamweaver, and possibly how to do it.

Here goes... I would like the website homepage to consist of a complex photograph with the links (news, media, contact etc) hidden behind random objects in the photo. The links should only become visible when mouse hovers over, with a movement/animation etc...

Also some movements on the hompage would be great... .gif???

I would like the site to contain...
News - Latest News
Live - Gig List
Media - Videos, Photos, MP3 player
Shop - ???
Contact - Contact Form....

A friend tells me it would be much easier to link the above tags to external sites i.e. news -> wordpress blog, videos -> youtube channel...
Is that a good idea?? I would rather have all contained in this one site.

Please, any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hi crashbangwollop,

well it sounds like you have quite some work ahead of you.

the best way to create such a website is using flash. i would
agree with you keeping everything contained on one page,
looks more professional. this is one 55.asp">template example you could use or an example
on how it could look like. i would recommend you browse
through the template site tes/Music-Band.asp">Templates ENTHEOS to get some
to do all that would require that you know somethings about
programming flash. not sure how familiar you are with flash.

Another way and more easier way is building a website with a
CMS for example Joomla! i've
been doing that for a while now and i love it!! it has tons of plugins and add ons to do all that what you want to do (Gallery, Media, etc.) and its a lot easier to
change content too! you should look into it! there's a very
helpful tool named Artisteer that makes it
a pleasure creating templates for your Joomla! site or pretty
much any CMS or Blog out there.

hope that helped you a little bit, good luck buddy!

You're not going to be doing the animations you describe w/ Dreamweaver. Flash would be the easiest. It's also possible w/ Javascript/HTML and/or HTML5 if you want a lesson in frustration.

As for the youtube/twitter/flickr integration...yeah it would probably make it much easier, since they provide the administration functionality, foot the bill for the hosting, and most of them offer an API to bring the content back into your site with your own 'theme' - which is usually a nice way to go.

As suggested above, a CMS is not what I'd recommend for such a custom design. You're going to have problems converting your complex design into the CMS template & most of your time will be spent learning the CMS.

But...the template you've described sounds rather complex. I don't particularly like Flash, but for sites with heavy animation, it's the best way to go.

What you are describing is best accomplished as a Flash-animated website. There are Flash development tools out there to help you create a site quickly and easily.
