I am going to develop a website that hosts lots of movies 1MB - several hundreds MB. I was wondering if I should have a dedicated server.
I know that the main concern is the bandwidth since there will be a lot of client download.

You could invest in a dedicated server (separate one) but it wouldnt be necessary in my opinion. Just invest in your hosting services bandwidth and service space. Then setup up either a user friendly/public domain to access all of the files. What you should do first is not buy into some 500 dollar play, buy something that is around 3 gigs of server space and about 45 gigs of bandwidth. Then look into how much is used and determine yourself how much more to purchase.
