Comment: Hello, I'd like to host a telnet server but I know nothing about this stuff. Like how do I get a name for the server? How do I set up the server? Hope this is the right place for this thread. //Thanks in advance. Live the life as you know it / Wille

Reply: (edit)domains are issued to IP addresses using the DNS system. you must add an A record to point to the server on a REGISTERED domain running on a DNS server. there are providers that allow DNS such as enom and godaddy. on the server, you can simply run telnetd. this isnt really recommended as it isnt that secure. if you want to do remote console i much recommend the SSHd.

Reply: (edit)Ok, I didn't understand much of that. Look I don't care much about security, I just want to know how to start up a server. It would be good if I didn't have to use some software for opening up a port. I've tried opening a port using Visual Basic but the only thing they suport is opening up a Serial Port and for some reason they're VERY proud of that. Is there a way to open a port for connection without using some software? Live the life as you know it / Wille
