I try to open a file (Google Earth "Placemark") (file extention is "kmz") that is on a website. When I click the link, first I am asked "Do you want to open or save this file?". I click "open". Then I am asked, "Do you want to save this file". I have choices only "save" or "cancel". But this file is supposed to open without saving. On the second popup, it says, "The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is either corrupted or it has an incorrect file type. As a security precaution, it is recommended that you cancel the download." In a different computer, the file was opened without a problem. I use IE 6.0
Does anyone have a clue??

When asked if you want to open or save the file, select Open and browser to the program used to open those files. You should then be prompted to "Always ask" or "Always open" that particular file.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

When I select Open, I cannot designate program used to open the file.
Strange thing is when asked "Do you want to open or save this file?", it says "Type: Compressed (zipped) Folder"
Sounds like my pc thinks this file as a folder, not a file. But I right click the link to see the Properties, it says "Type: Google Earth KMZ".

Try setting you file associations properly. This should force the Open command to launch the program that, that file type is associated with.
I have NOT lost my mind — I have it backed up on tape somewhere

Open Explorer | click Tools | Folder Options | click File Types | find the file extension your need to set | click Change | find the executable for Google Earth.
UNIX is an operating system, OS/2 is half an operating system, Windows is a shell, and DOS is a boot partition virus.

I could solve the problem by using different browser, Firefox. Firefox is better.
The website I was trying to open a Google Earth file ishttp://www.localweekender.com/
