Hello, I recently had some changes on my site where now most of my links are now dynamic php files with different file names, but the originals still exist.

For example: old file path domains.com/subdir/filename.php
Now the paths are domain.com/file/dynamicfile (would be domain.com.file.php?dynamicfile if I wasn't using forcetype)

I am using forcetype so it does not look like a dynamic site to search engines, but here is my problem.

I have about 40-50 old .php files that are linked from search engines. Is there a way to insert some code into each of those pages to tell the search engines to update their listings and link to the new sites? I could just automatically send the users to the new page, but I don't know if thats the best course of action. Any ideas? I want to be able to delete those extra files ASAP! But I don't want to have dead links from a search engine as a result.

Thanks!

~Rich

You can specify when a file should not get indexed, but still we won't know when the crawler will come.

If I were you, I'll just delete all of the old files, and create a custom 404 page. The saerch engine will no longer index it (on its next crawl), but when a visitor come from a search result, he/she will see your custom 404. You can add "the new link for that requested page is here" in the 404 page.
