$20/month can get you quite a bit of space, bandwidth, and features. For just one site, you can typically get away with under $10 per month. I pay $25/month to hostforweb.com for 8 sites and plenty of space and bandwidth (they also have cheaper plans.) Check out these previous posts that had similar questions:

I love stick figure death, so post back when you get it going :-)

I recommend handinhandcomputing.com. I've done a lot of searching through the Web for the best deal for your money and I think this is it. For $25.99 a year, or $2.17 per month, you get this amazing list of features:

* 1GB web space
* 15GB bandwidth
* Unlimited e-mail accounts
* Unlimited FTP accounts
* Unlimited subdomains
* Parked domains: 3
* 15-day money-back guarantee
* FrontPage extensions
* Catch-all email (if you want it)
* Online Control Panel
* Directory Protection -- .htaccess
* Shopping Cart
* Spam filtering
* CGI-BIN
* Unlimited MySQL databases
* PHP 4.0 and Perl 5
* Site Statistics

That's just my selective pick: the list goes on. If I were you, I would sign up to this service with a credit card, check it out for the first week and -- if you're not happy with it -- get a refund.

Before registering with handinhandcomputing.com, you'll need to register your domain name. You said you want yourwebsitename.com. I think the best service for this is namecheap.com. It costs $8.88/year for your domain. That is to register or renew it for one year.

So, in total, it would cost a mere $34.87 per year to host your site.

I hope this helps,

James

P.S. Don't forgot to post back here what you decide to do. :)

Only problem with that is..... they don't exist. Try a search of www.tophost.com which has lists of sites at all levels and all prices, including free.

Heare are a few learning issues and sites from prior posts on computing:

Hotscripts.com,
http://websiteowner.info/
w3schools.com Hosting tutorial
http://www.free-webmaster-tools.com/index.html

pair.com.
gearhost.com
dotster.com.
www.portland.co.uk
www.geocities.com

http://www.angelfire.com
Gives you a whooping 50 megs of space.

domain names - Speway,or yahoo, or http://www.crosswinds.net-Unlimited web/email space. Strange...but true. But, you could face speed problems here.

I mentioned godaddy because they offer a low price on domain name registration and decent hosting packages. Convenient to use them.

Personally i use pair.com for hosting and dotster for my domain name.

http://www.cnet.com/internet/0-3799.html?tag=dir
(Web Hosting) and search through the cheaper services & other plans that are available.

I use Tripod for my webhosting. Yes it is free, but they do offer upgrades. Like for $4.95 a month you get no topbanner, and of course you can pay for as much as you want. I calculated a maximum of $150 a month by time you got the extra bandwith and all. I can't tell you if there is any thing in their terms of service that says they can use anything on your site or not.

www.safehost.net 100mb space for 14.95 month, unlimited e-mail, unlimited bandwidth usage, e-mail alias, Frontpage extensions good tech support.

www.pair.com gives you 100mb's for $5.00 US per month. And cheaper if you pay for the year in advance. My hosting cost $56.00 this year. Most anywhere you go.. you will be expected to pay with a credit card. You can usually change that later.
FileZilla is free. Ive used ws_ftp for years but i like filezillas interface a little bit more.

godaddy.com offers a decent hosting package [deluxe with cgi] at $10.95 per month & $8.95 [annually] domain names.

www.domainvalet.com.

www.prohosting.com and www.verio.com.

www.fortunecity.com a free host site.

E-Commerce
ValueWeb

Netscape offers free webhosting. You get 11mbs of space and a maximum of 25 pages. Only images and documents count towards the 1lmbs. I have a few accounts tied together to create my website. And Netscape also works in templates which some people find easier.

Im back again! I was just talking about yall, you dont seem to have a good rep over here. Lots of overselling hosts I see...
Here is my overselling talk
They oversell (Sell more then they have)
A good server "rented" is at 250$ a month, and comes with 1000gb bandwidth
40/1000= 25 accounts a server
25x$4= 100$
So they lose 100$ a month and make no money?
How is it possible?

Excell Hosting for all your hosting needs.

Movies? Then forget them, they don't allow that. This from their FAQ page:

Do you support audio/video streaming?
Currently we do not support audio or video streaming.

I plan on hosting a bunch of different files for users to download. Do you allow this?
We do not permit the use of our servers for file sharing or excessive downloading, due to the fact that it often slows down servers which affects others sharing the same server.

Only reason I can think they say this is because (chaud will love this)... they are oveselling. My own hosts do allow reasonable file downloading, though again files of the size you mean would be forbidden.

SN - yes, I really like AssortedInternet.com. I picked them because they were one of the few webhosts that supported Java/JSP that had decent service.
