I know thml and javascript and a few other languages and i am going to build my first website. I know how to build it but how do i get it online. I know I need to buy the space and the domain name. Then upload it. I am also building a couple sites for people that I know that are opening small businesses. How do i get it all online, are there any recommended books, are there any recommended servers adn domain name sites. I am new at this so any help would be appreciated.

Check topsites.com for details of sites in various prices ranges with various features included. You need to consider what you will use and what you may use in the future.

I recommend you pay for the hosting to avoid ads not related to your site(s), and to have more features/less restrictions. Site upload will usually be via ftp, which is simple enough.

Can't help with domain purchase, as it depends on your locale. I recommend if you are British you buy British, and avoid US sellers so your privacy is protected by the Data Protection Act.

I use www.godaddy.com for domain names. Normal ones (.com, .net, etc) cost only $8.95 per year. There are some that are cheaper.

i have used www.namecheap.com for a good deal

when you buy space at a host they sometimes make it possible to upload files using your browser - however this process is rather slow

you will need to get what is called an FTP program - one of the best ones is WS_FTP, not sure of the download site, do a google search using the name

once you have your host and the ftp program, use the information that your host will give you on how to set up your ftp program - the rest is easy enough

British and European Union nationals should avoid using American companies, because of the privacy and data violation issues. If you need it, I can name two British hosts/registrars who will supply space and names without a credit card, as well as complying fully with the superior protections provided under our Data Protection Act.

For uploading WS_FTP is a very good program.
For domain name and hosting www.blue domino.com is very good. (Plus you can get free programs from them with hosting)

SeaStar, from the sea to the star's and all in between!
