Comment:

How would I go about incerasing the time to timeout when connecting via FTP?
Whenever I try to connect somewhere it says: "An error has occured opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder. Details: The operation timed out."

Assuming you are using IIS5 you can change the timeout options available by going to IIS > FTP Sites > Right-click Default FTP Site > Properties > FTP Site tab. Here you can see the various settings for connctions and timeouts. Although from what you are saying it might be more to do with being able to actually find the file. Make sure your firewalls aren't blocking port 21 (especially as you have SP2 on your machine). Check the XP built in firewall isn't on. If it is you will need to set it to allow the ftp service. Chances are that it is on because SP2 makes sure of that. Just go to your security centre in control panel and check the firewall settings and any other firewall software you may have on your computer.

Good luck!

It happens quite often in IE or so I've noticed. You really should try using a standalone FTP program instead of IE.

Sorry, i thought you where having problems accessing your own ftp site that you hosted.

-Bryan- is quite right though, it is better to use a standalone ftp client program. Have a look @ www.download.com and type ftp in the search engine, there's loads to have a look at.

If that also fails, make sure it's not their end (ftp host).
