i am currently doing a small website for a golfer. they want to be able to update the news page themselves while on tour with a small photo, article etc. however, they have no experience in HTML or frontpage or anything like that. whats the best way to implement a simple news page like that so they can update it easily from anywhere?

easiest for them or for you? :D
if it's for them then the more work you do the more easy for them :D
the easiest to implement (and to use) is probably by using a text file as the news database, so people just have to update the text file and the news section in the website will be updated. this can be done by using almost all scripting language... and I think it won't be too complicated...
the updater still needs to "upload" the text file to the webserver...
if you want them to be able to update the page from anywhere, then I think there's no easy solution (for you). you should at least use a server-side scripting and putting some simple authentication method, so they can open a page, enter password, do the update, save, and done...
which one do you prefer?

Have a look at macromedia contribute, that's designed for novices to update their site. Simple to set-up once you have explained them.simon
