I am new to dream weaver 2000 and trying to pick this up from scratch hasn't been the easiest thing ive done.

My site is all but finished, but upon testing i noticed on DSL or Cable, page loads quickly as would be expected. On 26k, it is a whole different story.

That is, the main page loads a hell of a lot slower than other pages that are similar to mine.

Details of my site; the main page has one image that is a jpeg which is 317k, nothing special, just my company logo(.png) and a navbar(.png). (These are compressed images taking up little space). 2). each page has a frame on top, and a body, which holds text and images.(the main page has 1 pic).

Heres the question, when i was making this site, I noticed that dreamweaver would put every page into a seperate folder. That is, home.htm (this is the frameset), homeBody (this holds the text and images), frame.htm (holds the company log and navBar) were all put in a folder called home. The same is repeated for products, services, ect.... I thought I had read some where that this could slow things down. Any truth to this?

Also, I though I remember reading that depending on where you store your images may speed up or slow down how the page loads. Any truth here?

Although during the course of developing this website i have become fairly knowledgeable of dreamweaver, keep in mind I am still learning it. So, if you could please be detailed in your response, It would be greatly appreciatied.(i.e. Click here when this happens or click here to get to this..) Thanks in advance!

well... considering the differences in internet connections it seems you undere-stimate dsl and cable. @28.8k the 360k page would take about 110 seconds (about 2 mins) to load. on the other had, my dsl downloads at about 160kbps so it would take me less than 2 seconds to download the page and cable is almost always faster than dsl, so there goes that.

a couple things to look at there's no reason to have a 317k picture, i can assure you that. lower the quality or something.
i dont like frames much but despite that, if you have any additional pictures in the frames, they will have to be downloaded on the initial load as well.
i never heard about where you store images and having an effect of speed. if you'd ask me, i'd say thats a 100% no. it doesnt matter where you put the images on that server, they'll still be just as fast as before (or as slow).

can you show us the page?

where'd you get the images? you have to optimize them for web, by using macromedia fireworks for example :)

Hey, thanks all, but I have my problem solved. I figured out how to use fire works. I shrunk that 317k down to 26k. I guess my confusion was the fact that once I did change the image resolution, i didnt notice a differenc in file size when I went to where the picture was stored on my c drive. Also, I never hit the preview button to see a change. Anyway, I figured it out. thanks for all the help!
