Hi, I have just been learning how to use dreamweaver and want to put my website out there. i would like to make one of my home computers a server. It is a wildlife website as i have a rescue centre and would like to host it myself. where do i start. thanks anne

The first thing you would need to do check to see if your ISP allows you to host your own web site. ISP's like verizonFIOS or cablevision do not allow you to host your own web site and they block port 80. I do host my own website, www.chrismr.com -- speakeasy.net does not block ports on your connection. After you have confirmed this, you will need to install IIS on your sever, and then configure a DNS record for your web page. It is not difficult to do and would be happy to assist you. Some ISP's will allow you to host a personal website on their server. I use windstream.net and they allow a small amount of space, about 10mb I think, for personal web sites. See: http://home.windstream.net/jpw/
