Comment:
I would like to create a thread and or message board.

Requriments:
Anyone can go to the website and in a text field type what they wish. They can click on 'submit' and whatever typed in the text field will be posted on the same page.

I would then like for another user to come along and type a response to the above users post.

Below is come code I tried to find and create.

I could not find any good examples on line. So if you know a good site just point me thier and I can do the rest myself.

Thanks for any help.

<form name="input" action="output" method="get">

Type your post here:
<input type="text" name="posting" value= "" width="350" height="25">

<input type="submit" value="Submit">

<output type="test" value="Output">

</form>

If you click the "Submit" button it will display your post
</p>

So, what's your question? If you are asking whether you should use "HTML or JavaScript" for a site that allows user input, then the answer is neither.

You will need HTML of course in order to present the content to the user. But, you must use a server-side implementation in order to receive user data, save it and then present that data to another user.

Typical implementations are PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, JSP, etc. Unless you find a prebuilt implementation (assuming you server supports it) you will need to learn to program in one of those environments.

Hmm. Yes that was my 'question'.

I would have to learn a different language to get this 'message board' to work? is their code I could just 'insert' into my HTML for it to work.

I would need to set up the server to store the user content? (I don't need them to log on or anything) Just so a user can see their posts and others.

If you are familiar with Facebook's Wall feature. It allows a user to type on a persons profile and for others to view the wall posts. I would like to do that...

Thanks for your help so far.

No you cannot just insert it into HTML code and have it work. You must first find out what type, if any, server-side code your web server supports. When the user submits a form the data in the form is submitted to a page on the server. That page will have programming in it to receive the data and act on it.

There are most likely ready-made scripts in whatever language you need to use. But, you must first find out what your server supports.
