Create a html search box with excel file as data source

March 20, 2014 at 06:57:45
Specs: Windows 7

I'm looking for a script to set up a HTML serch engine to scan and give back results coming from an Excel file ( HTMLsolution only, please ).

Years ago I had come up with a script that did this, but after so much time, I simply lost it.

Any help ? Thanks...

HTML by itself can't do that. You need to use a backend scripting language such as Perl, PHP, Ruby, etc to parse the excel file and send back the results as html.

Thanks for your prompt reply...

Well, I don't really mind if it is PHP, as long as I use it online. What about Javascript ?

My HTML request suggestion was based on using the routine offline in any PC.

Okey, please recommend the best way you'd go about it.

Thanks again !

First, write a flowchart showing how the app functions (its logic flow).

Next, expand on that flowchart by putting in the pseudo code for each step.

Then use the scripting language you know best and take each section of pseudo code and write the actual code to preform that task.
