1. I think the layout is quite hard on the eyes. There is not much space between each item on the page, apart from the green bar on the far right. This means it is much harder to scan the page for the information you need.

The navigational image bar across the bottom of the page doesn't fit in with the rest of the page, so it looks out of place.

2. Ugh. There are so many different colours it makes it hard to look at. I don't understand what was trying to be accomplished with the "welcome" bar across the top -- I have a feeling it was designed for a specific screen resolution; it wraps badly on mine.

The gradient background is rather annoying, more so because of the variety of fonts, images, colours and sizes used. The links on the left-hand side could have been done with standard text links and they're just wasting space.

3. In true honesty: I don't like any of the images on that page. Sorry, but that's just what I think. You shouldn't use images for all of the links and the animated GIFs make it even more annoying.

4. Downloading time?! After downloading it to disk, it weighs in at a hefty 279KB! That's hellish on a 56K modem but I wouldn't even consider it acceptable on a high-speed connection either.

I tried a few links and most didn't work; I presume this is only a sample page of it so far. However, I don't really see the need for that many different sites. I would prefer it if it was split into the different continents.

My suggestion would be to completely rethink your layout, amount of images and actual content for your site. You need to have a clear vision of what the site is about and what you want to accomplish with it. Sorry if that sounded too opinionated...

1. takes way too long to load

2. the orange colour is too bright, you really want a more subdued colour...a tend to think blueish or whiteishor greenish

3. there is a blue banner with sometimes white and sometimes red text...avoid red text on blue , it really clashes

4. the cst commerce zone header looks amateurish

5. i think that you have too many different type fonts and text sizes

6. clicked on australia and can't quite read the red text + menu on left is too wide with text too wide + no need for the red bars as separators (makes it look amateurish) + bottom bar looks amateurish too with the type of effect you have used on the links + the australian flag is not displayed with the correct heightxwidth ratios...it looks longer than it should be

can i suggest a simple design that is consistent with itself if that makes sense as the bottom menu bar is not in keeping with the design of the page and hence leads to the "ransom note effect" where too many different fonts are used

sorry for the bad news but i really think a simple design would work better with a choice of 2-3 colours, 2-3 different fonts and a consistent look and feel

to get an idea of good design, have a look around the web for web sites that "work"

hope this helps

on your java menus when you go to "business services" or "exchanges", they work a little bit differently than the rest. also for that java menu, its all blue and the site is more of an orange, if you'd ask me... i hate it, i hate those things anyway, and yours is extra bad. you should really redo the site using like 2 images at max and 3 colors at max maybe 4 if it needs be. keep in mind that everything need to be one of those colors that you have, including: images, java menus, text and border colors.
good luck with the site. i hope ya get soemthing working for you soon

Hi Ritchie,
You've found the best way to get a critique.....ask for one here. My first site was ripped to shreds, but I learned and now I'm making some money at it.

First the good:
1. the site looks warm and inviting. It draws me in and makes me want to read it.

2. I like the general look.

3. the layout is sound. The standard components are where I expect them to be.

and the bad:

1. the images are pretty grainy. Perhaps you could use a nicer editor like the Gimp to make the graphics. Also, I find that png's turn out nicer than gif's.

2. The picture in the header wraps funny. I can see the Welcome part start over again on the right side.

3. You should lay out the page so that the tables are 760 pixels wide. That ensures that the site fills the page at an 800x600 minimum resolution (it's kind of standard). Currently, at 800x600, I have to scroll back and forth.

4. Don't change the image dimensions in the html. Create them at the size you need and insert them unchanged.

5. I can't read the scrolling banner at the top. If you really want it there, make the text white. I suggest getting rid of it if you can. It's kind of irritating.

6. Under the scrolling banner, there's a single globe in a white area as wide as the page. You should get rid of it. It makes the page longer, and makes me think you forgot to put something in the white area.

7. The text under "Billing Services" is different from the text under the other categories....like it doesn't reference the stylesheet properly. Also, consider making your text black in order to better contrast with the orange colored background.

8. The bottom table is centered while the rest of tables are left-justified.

9. The flashing text should go. That feature is commonly derided in the html textbooks and generally hated among users.

10. Next time don't use frontpage. It's not really a web page generator. It's actually microsoft's way to force people to use IE because webpages generated with frontpage only work right with IE.

I'm using Firefox, and your javascript functions just don't work. For creating your site I suggest Mozilla Composer, NVU, Quanta, or even Notepad....but never never never never try to design webpages using frontpage. MS should be sued for releasing such a horrible broken product.

Also, an excellent reference book is "The HTML, XHTML, and CSS Bible" by Bryan Pfaffenberger et al. ISBN 0-7645-5739-4.

I use it religiously (no pun intended).

Best of luck to you. Hope I've helped.
