Subject: Autorun question?
OS: win 2000
CPU/Ram: intel p2 384 Mb
Comment:

Hi,
I am trying to send my son a CD with a simple web page on it, that autorun's when he puts it into the drive, i have got the page working ok, but i cant get autorun to work.

the web page is called index.htm , & it and the other two html pages are all in the root directory.

the blurb i have read says that the autorun.inf file should contain

[autorun]
OPEN=index.htm /AUTORUN
ICON=index.htm

is this correct or am i barking up the wrong tree as usual.

Any help at all would be usefull, many thanks in advance.
Cheers

I think autorun is also dependent on the settings on their computer..

Nah.

You can't autorun an html file on its own. You can autorun things like .exe files, but not .html files or .pdf or anything like that.

Try this utility:

Here is a solution that doesn't require you to download any special software, just a minor modification to what you already have.

[autorun]
OPEN=autorun.bat

You can add more to the autorun.inf file like if you want to associate a icon like you were showing above. Within the batch file enter the following:

start index.htm

This should do the trick. I spent over a week trying to track down this solution. Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks everyone for the many & varied answers.
-Bryan, the utility you suggested didn't seem to work for me with win 2k, but thanks, it sure looked smart.

Lucky1, brilliant! sorted straight away, i thought i still had a problem because although it worked it was taking an eternity to start the autorun, but i cracked it eventually, i was using a rewritable cd, & they dont seem to read as fast as the std ones, but when i burnt it onto an ordinary one, Bingo!! thanks again pal.

Phil, thanks for the info, i havent tried it yet, but i will, it almost takes me back to my old DOS days, with BAT files, but thanks again.

Cheers folk, you saved me overdosing on aspirin, as it was doing my head in.

Keith

Interesting. It sure works under XP. Oh well, at least everything worked.

Glad we could help.

Keith,

You're already set with the help form the fine previous people but i love this program so much i thought i'd add it to the thread anyway.

I racked my brain trying to do the same thing for months until someone turned me on to BrowserCall which is a free program. Once you set it once you can just copy "autorun.inf" and "browsercall.exe" to any CD with an "index.html" file and it will auto-open. I'm a phtotographer so i have a template i make websites for my clients with to view their photos so i just throw those 2 files on the CD and it opens their photos in their browser for them. You can get it at:
