Hi everyone! I have a problem with apache. I can access my web site with http://localhost/. But if I use http://myrealip/ (external ip from whatsmyip.com) it load my router setup page instead of my website. (I should be able to access my router setup page only with my internal IP).

Also, people from the web cannot access my website. I want to access my website from my external ip address (like it should be) Whats the problem? Thanks

You need to configure port forwarding in your router.

1. check your router maunal on how to get in the admin page of your router.

2. Get the IP of your computer and set your router to forward all port 80 requests to your 192.162.x.x IP, you also will need to set DMZ to your IP.

Bad idea, port forwarding is all that's needed. There is no reason to expose the computer by putting it in the DMZ.

I agree about the DMZ... avoid using it at all costs unless you know a lot about securing a public server.

Another thing to note is that some routers (some Linksys ones comes to mind) will always give you the config page when the public IP is requested from inside the NAT. I think it has something to do with internal routing tables, though I don't know if there's any way around it.

Check with a machine outside your network to see if they can get to it. If so, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just use localhost from the server.

Thanx FishMonger for letting me know about DMZ. Last time when I was configuring my ftp server it was not working and worked after i setup the DMZ.

I have taken it off now and everything is working fine.
