How can I configure XP home to automatically log into a samba server when the user logs onto there machine with the same user name and password that samba uses. It's strange that some of our XP home system work and some don't.

From what I understand, XP Home has NO networking support. Like, NONE at all. Microsoft wants you to spend the extra $100 and get Professional if you want to network anywhere. Home apparently has dial-up support and that is it.

Sorry. :(

Check your passwd on the ones that dont work.
We have several users that have laptops
with XP home with no problem what so ever.

I am on a laptop now that has access to
a couple of different Red Hat samba
servers. Make sure your useing
encrpytpasswords =yes and make sure you
are using the right encryption type on
the servers. But XP home not having network
support is crazy I have not ever heard of
such a thing. Especially from a NETWORK OS.
That is what XP is all about. sorry ANJ but
you are incorrect, unless you get a lite
version like the 98lite install kit or
your sysadmin did away with via a PDC or
other means using policy editor..

I'm with you Carey, I have several clients running XP home on a multi subnet WAN, no networking problems with them at all.

XP being basiclly NT 5.0 I don't think you could seperate out the networking componets if you wanted too.

XP is NOT basically NT5, Win2k IS NT 5.0. If anything, XP would be NT 6.0!
