I would like to know how to kick people off the Unix system. When I type "who" at the command line I receive the following:

$ who
root tty02 Nov 29 12:02
root ttyp0 Nov 29 12:02
joline ttyp1 Dec 8 14:22
paul ttyp2 Dec 8 15:17
shawn ttyp3 Dec 8 09:15
joline ttyp4 Dec 8 14:22
eloise ttyp6 Dec 8 07:56
eloise ttyp7 Dec 8 07:56
dorothy ttyp8 Dec 8 07:57
dorothy ttyp9 Dec 8 07:57

How do I force the root off?

By "force" I think you mean kill a user's processes. Perform a:

who -uTH

and you should see:
NAME LINE TIME IDLE PID COMMENTS
nails pts/0 Dec 8 20:06 . 6273

You can't kill user root or anyone elses processes unless you have root privileges.

Nails

Sorry, in the post above, I should have mentioned, if you root,

kill -9 6273

gets rid of user nails
