the best UNIX OS?

i'm putting together an new computer from spare parts of my old PI 133.
i think that i'm going to have it run on a unix os. can i get some suggestions on which unix (redhat, freebsd) is the best and why its the best? i know it depends on what its being used for, but i'm just looking for general thoughts. thanx.

For The big boys it is Solaris or IRIX. I would say freeBSD gets the server edge, more secure( openBSD even better), more reliable, more mature. Keep in mind this is UNIX relative, Linux is still a good server. For client or developement platform it is Linux hands down. On my Linux machine I can code in C/C++ with gbm debugger, Perl, TCL, Python, SQL and Java almost all right out of the box. Add virtual terminals to this mix and I can compile in full CLI mode and switch to an Xclient with the flip of a switch to see the output.
