I am biased but I would put Linux on it. Linux runs on Sparc just fine. You will find more in the bookstore on Linux. When you have some Linux under you belt I am sure you will gain a lot of UNIX knoweledge and you can boot up Solaris without a hitch. If I were to have my way I would probably have Solaris enterprise servers, Linux/*BSD DNS,file, print, web servers and Linux clients. But I do not get my way too often. If you can find a Solaris wizard soon enough then that would suffice as well but I am not that man.

You can get a copie of Solaris 7 and 8 from sun.com for $18, that includes shipping. at the ok prompt type boot cdrom.
Follow the instructions on screen and thats it. I have 4 Sparcstations running Solaris 7 just fine.
