I am trying to learn more about using UNIX so I figured I will build me a server and learn from experience, and trial and error.

First of all are there any special specifications I need to know about when building a server. (It is not going to be a new server, just one I can learn on) Will a normal Pentium, celeron, or AMD processor work?

Secondly, I have elected to download the Sun One Application Server 7 from sun.com. Is this a good choice? Or should I go with something else?

Besides those two issues does anyone have any advice or tips that might help me out?

Thanks for all your help,

-Mario-

The sun one application server is a network portal application suite. You need to Operating system first. You can download solaris 9 for $20 from here

http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html

Or solais 8 from here:

http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/8/index.html

There is a hardware compatability list somewhere but most things should work with the exception of super new hardware like trick video cards.

Yep the previos was a test :o)
OK for Linux P1, 100Mgz, 2Gb HD, 64RAM will be OK :o) You can download red hat linux OS from:
www.redhat.com for free, and get all manuals you need in PDF format there too :o)
To install everything they have you will need 7.5 GB and it takes about 4-6 hours :o) on that PC :o)
