Subject: sector clone SCO unix ?
OS: WinXP and Linux
CPU/Ram: 2,5Ghz, 1024Mb
Comment:

We are a Scandinavian Data recovery company and would be gratefull for a little advice to help us assist an SCO Unix user in difficulties.
We have successfully replaced a defective read head/servo array in a SCSI drive. Now we need to execute a sector clone of this disk drive to a new disk drive.
1. What tools exist to clone SCO Unix to another unformatted new drive ?
2. Are any tools available that include boot disks or boot from DOS or Linux ?

We respectfully point out that we are not looking for file copy utilities, in data recovery it is essential to copy at the sector level (in other words a clone)

Thanks for any advice

if you are not familiar with dd, it can be used to copy partitions by using options of the form "dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/hdb1"
see (e.g.) http://www.netsec.si/tips/disk.html

The Corporate Edition of Ghost from Symantec will do a sector by sector copy of a SCO UnixWare disk to a new unformatted drive. It only talks about Windows and Linux in the documentation but it will also work with SCO Unixware.
