This question applies to both Windows 98 and SCO Unix although I believe the Windows 98 side is covered. I know this has been discussed, but to know conclusive answer.

Dilmena: Trying to print from SCO Unix 5.0.6 to a local printer off a Windows 98 machine (print server) on the LAN.

Steps: Windows 98 is configured for file and print sharing. Added the network printer to SCO Unix using scoadmin HP Network Printer. I added the Windows 98 IP address and the proprinter option.

What Happens: I attempt to print a test page to the Windows 98 machine's local printer, but get a "Printer access test failed. Add . to the printer's access list" on the SCO machine. Windoes 98 has shared file/printer acces, but not alloweed to add specific users.

Question: Should I simply be able to print off this Windows 98 machine because it has shared printing? Do I need to install drivers on my SCO machine? Do I need to look into a Samba solution? Are there any easier options? Should I simply run a local printer and avoid the problem?

It seems like there should be an easier solution. Any ideas? Thanks much to everyone in advance.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but consider that SCO 5.0.6 is buggy, and we have not had success in getting printing to work correctly in the UNIX world, we reverted back to 5.0.5, which works find.
