Accidentaly i have booted a unix open server machine with a virus infected floppy inside a floppy drive.
The next time, when i wanted to boot the machine "operating system not found" message came and the system hanged.
i have tried all the procedures given in sco manuals like booting through emergency disketts and copying boot files. All the partition information and file system informations are o.k. Able to mount the hard disk file system after booting through floppy. But Still i couldn't boot the system through hard disk drive.
My dear friends, Please do consult in this regard.

Perhaps virus is still there in boot block..
Boot with clean dos floppy and run the following :
a:>fdisk /mbr
See if you can boot with hard disk if not try overwriting boot block.

You can refer to my web site
http://www.adminschoice.com

for more information ..you may find a answer in problem database section of SCO unix.

It's highly unlikely that you have transferred a virus onto a unix box, since the majority of virus hackers and virus's are Dos/WinX/NT based and therefore will not be recoginsed under sco's environment. The problem will have been there before this happened. My suggestion is to try booting off another kernel or reinstall from scratch. Then upgrade from 5.0.2 to 5.0.5

myself also faced this problem many times.

i have done like following method only.

1.boot throug boot disk.
2.put hd(40)unix at the boot:
3.then it will take the root from hard disk
4.Then goto singel user mode.
5.apply following command in #prompt.
6. #instbb hd /dev/hd0a
#dparam -w
#init 0
7.remove the boot disk.
8.restart the system through hard disk.

This time system should boot.
