Hi,

I am trying to execute an rsh from a server to a client. Say the name of the server is TORA (and username there is MRA1) & client is LXGM (MONT is username)

I've setup a .rhost file (chmodded 644) on LXGM that holds this line:
TORA MRA1

Now when I try a "rsh LXGM ls" from TORA, I get a "permission denied" error message...

My problem (I think) is the fact that TORA is not the actual hostname that is passed during the "rsh communication". I've tried typing "hostname" on TORA & it gives "xbar00".

I tried putting another line with :
xbar00 MRA1

in the .rhosts file. Still same error message...

any idea??

Thanks

I think your problem is that you need a .rhosts file (not .rhost).

And if the hostname is still an issue, I would use the IP address in the .rhosts file rather than the hostname (ping LXGM to get that IP address).
