Removing the FreeBSD partition

Okay, I installed FreeBSD on my computer and then had to go overseas. Meanwhile, I forgot the password for root... and since I never used Linux cuz I didn't have time to play around with it, I decided to remove the partition (dual boot, Win98/FreeBSD). I used fdisk to remove the partition but it doesn't give the DOS partition the space back. I want it back. It shouldn't just "disappear" like that. So how on earth am I supposed to get the stupid prompt at bootup to go away (b/c there's only 1 option: DOS) and how do I reuse that space for DOS? Please email me ( snrrrub@yahoo.com ) Thanks!!

bootup from your win98 bootdisk and then at the prompt type fdisk /mbr that will clear your master boot record and you won't get the lilo prompt again. to regain your disk space you will have to use disk druid or a similar partitioning software. fdisk does not recognize linux partitions. PartitionMagic is best with it you can convert ext2 partitions to dos and back.
Summary: You can do a low level partition removal using the shareware "diskedit". Have a boot floppy with "diskedit" on it, boot from the floppy, and remove the partition. Hope this helps......

Summary: boot from a floppy and @ the c: prompt (partition used for NT) type in fdisk /mbr this should reset the master boot record and allow you to boot into NT, from there you can remove the linux partition(...
