hello, i am a big fan of Redhat...i thought of formating my system and installing redhat as a desktop OS. What are the benefits(if any) on doing so... and the ultimate question....which is better??

If you want to try Linux I would suggest a Unix-like as Slackware. Conectiva Linux is also a good try. Red Hat 8.0 is pretty darn slow - the system requirments are: 300Mhz Processor with 192MB RAM (for graphical interface) but the real practical thing is that you need MUCH MORE... like at least 2Ghz with 512 MB of RAM. Red Hat Linux is not for low end systems.
The problem is not *LINUX* in itself. The problem is that X (the graphical server) implementation became really slow in 4.x series and KDE/GNOME, both popular desktops that replace Windows look and feel, are RAM eaters and CPU consumers.
