Comment:

I am running Solaris 7 on x86, I do not have the file /etc/defaultrouter or /etc/resolv.conf
I need to set a gateway and name servers, would I be correct in assuming I would need to create these files myself. Or is there another way of doing this?
Thanks

Yes these files do need to be created. the syntax is:

/etc/defaultrouter
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

/etc/resolv.conf
search "domain"
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - secondary dns (optional)

Make sure you either copy /etc/nsswitch.dns to /etc/nsswitch.conf or edit /etc/nsswitch.conf to your configuration.
